Our History
MTS the wetlab company gmbh was founded in 1996 by Karlheinz Hannig, who began the journey with just five microscopes and a clear vision: to make ophthalmic training more practical, accessible, and effective. From the very beginning, Oertli was an important puzzle piece and partner, supporting the idea of bringing high-quality wetlab training to surgeons.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, MTS steadily expanded its training concepts, collaborating with universities and clinics across Europe. Over the following years, the company grew internationally, delivering customized wetlab solutions for leading industry partners and professional societies worldwide.
In 2025, after nearly three decades of dedication, Karlheinz Hannig retired and handed over the company to Michael Gundrum, ensuring that the pioneering spirit and commitment to excellence continue into the future.
Today, MTS is recognized globally as a trusted partner and innovator in ophthalmic surgical training. What started as a small initiative has become a company that continues to shape education in ophthalmology—always guided by innovation, precision, and the legacy of its founder.
