There is a great demand for hands-on practice in recent developments and evolution of surgical techniques in vitrectomy and medical retina.
However practice has to go with understanding the principals and this year the invited retina experts will be almost equal in number with the accepted trainee fellows, teaching and answering questions right next to you.
The feedback we received from the 3 previous TVRS’ helped us improve in the right direction.
– We have increased the daily wet lab and the Simulator training to a minimum of 15 hours for each participant,
– We have created 15 Surgical positions using some of the latest Vitrectomy Units such as Alcon’s Constellation and Accurus, Synergetic’s newest VersaVit, Dorc, Oertli. This will enable training with different machines, in the same area, on both pig and artificial eyes.
– The latest tips of the Bimanual Vitrectomy will be studied using different viewing systems such as the latest Haag Streit EIBOS 2 wide angle observation system.
This year there is going to be an advanced course for 10 Surgeons that already had the basic training, in order to learn the tricks and the tips on the vitrectomy’s current evolution, especially of the in- office-based vitrectomy and cost effectiveness techniques.
Requirement for advance course participation is previous experience in retina courses and personal experience in surgical theatre.
CV should be submitted.
This year a special session is added for cataract surgeons on micro incisional surgery 23g, 25g and 27g for treating anterior chamber, cataract complications, using mainly the side ports.
The courses will take place in the center of Thessaloniki, at the ELECTRA Palace Hotel, 16-21 June 2014.
The theory sessions will be held in the morning by experts in medical and surgical retina, while in the afternoon the wet & dry labs will take place.
The combination of the prominent teaching Faculty on one-to-one basis (numbered 34 last year), and the excellent MTS wet lab organization and staff is the perfect combination needed to give so much in such a short time.
The weather in June is temptingly very pleasant, the dinners (usually) will take place outdoors.
The number of participants will be limited and the acceptance will be on first come-first served basis.
